The Stones Can Still Rock. No Bull With Raging Robert.
In a bygone era of Rock and Roll, “The Rolling Stones” can still deliver. Last night at Met life Stadium the Stones played for about an hour and forty-five minutes chugging out one song after another. While the “Hackney Diamonds” songs were fair at best, their classics were unforgettable!
Opening with “Start Me Up”, they went to the great “Get Off My Cloud” and onto “Bitch”. With a new drummer to replace Watts, the crowd heard a more swing drummer than the old rock drumming. Even though it never took a great drummer to plays the Stones, this drummer added a slight new dimension to their music.
Since Bill Wyman left the band, the new bassist is far better technique wise. Ron Wood looks old and frail ,but he still gets it done; as does Keit Richards. Richards is spry in his 80's.The staging was some of the best you will ever see! As a much added feature to the evening, it was great seeing the stones again.
What was probably the second best Stones concert that I went to (Steel Wheels being the best), the Stones can still play. With a deep bench of songs the Stones didn’t disappoint. As Jagger once said “you have to do the must do’s”. The must do’s are “Jumping Jack Flash”, “Paint It Black”, “Honky Tonk Woman” ,”Satisfaction” (it used to also be “Brown Sugar”, however, the Stones gave in to the woke crowd and don’t play it any longer). One song that was eerily missing was “Miss You”. The Stones dropped the ball there; a great New York City song (walking Central Park…). I have never been to a Stones concert when they didn’t play “Miss You”; Jagger himself said it was both a band favorite and a fan favorite.
For over 60 years the Stones have been a force in Rock. Having recreated themselves many times, substituted band members due to death or in Mick Taylor’s case, leaving. Considered by many to be the world’s greatest Rock & Roll band, they make the very best with the talent that they have. No one could ever say that any of the band members are great musicians, but what they have together is pretty special.
